Blockhead Question of the Week: 

Do you keep a written list of your works in progress, etc?
I think I answered most of this in last week's long winded post. I don't have alot of UFO's but am certainly not organized enough that I have a list. I have to make lists for work, that's enough. My "wish list" is sticky notes in books/magazines that I've marked as I'm drooling over the pages. One of the latest on my have-to-make list is Carrie Nelson's Opening Day from her new book, Miss Rosie's Farmhouse Favorites. I don't design many two color quilts since my fabric lines are multi-colored, so I think I'm drawn to them in other designer's books. It's dreamy. Sigh...

I was able to make several two color quilts for my new book coming this fall, Cozy Quilts & Comforts. Here's a sneak peak of the cover. So exciting!

On to our Block of the Week #17. Lisa has a triangle block, Trail of Tears. Simple half squares arranged just so create a cool striped effect that can made a dozen different ways. I can't wait to see what all of you do with it.

Here is Kathy's traditional block in Lisa's red/tan/blue. Can't you see a a lap quilt done with these blocks? Yikes, there's another quilt on my to-do list.

Block #17 - Trail of Tears

Joy's block is kind of a planned scrappy of KT tans/darks. Much more subtle diagonal stripes.Such different looks from the same block. Keep in mind, our layered half squares mean no trimming.

Moda Blockheads Question of the Week:

How many "works in progress" do you have? Will you ever finish all of them?

Honestly, I don't have alot of unfinished non-KTQ projects. For business, I have 4 projects currently in the works (already started stitching), with several more on the drawing board. But, we're between markets & fabric lines, too. I am obsessed with collecting the other Moda designer's charms and mini charms. I buy a couple 1/2 yards to coordinate with my favorite charm collections. I hope to make a small project each winter and summer but usually finish in a day or two once I start.

What a great excuse to hunt for cool advertising boxes at antique shows

...or metal file drawers for minis.

Long term, I'm making a Christmas log cabin quilt from the pattern Prairie Christmas, adding a few new blocks each year from my latest Christmas group. I love how they all go together and it's a history of KTQ Christmas fabrics. 

And finally, my long-time-now-retired-piecer-and-friend, Lois Sprecker, and I have been planning/making a spider web block using every fabric in the line for each block for the past 16 fabric lines. It's almost ready to be set together. I'll share when it's done.

I have found there are two types of quilters in the world - process and product. There are quilters who have dozens of projects going at any given time, enjoying the process of cutting, piecing, and playing with their fabric, switching from one quilt to the next, in no hurry to finish. I am a product quilter, partly because of my job. My favorite quilt is the one I'm binding, because I know it's almost done. With so many deadlines, I really have to be a product quilter, but I still enjoy the long term projects as well. This BOW has reignited my passion for starting something new. But, I can't wait to get to the end to see it all come together!

After that VERY long answer, let's get to this week's block. 

Moda Blockheads Week #16

It's the time of year when I yearn for red, tan, and blue all over my house. Jan's flags are perfect for July 4th and all summer long. I can see this cute block framed or enlarged for a pillow topper. Add a checkerboard border for a small table topper or wall quilt to mix in with your other red/tan/blue collectibles. 

Joy made her block with wool on a KT star background, while Kathy chose a dark red background for her fused flags. The wavy stripe for the body of the flag is one of our new Gooseberry Lane prints - perfect!

Moda Blockheads Week #15

Question of the Week:

Is there a quilter whose work always inspires you?
How can I pick just one? At every quilt market, quilt show and guild show 'n tell, there are so many wonderful examples of creativity and ingenuity, I'm constantly inspired by all the quilters around me. However, if I was pressed to choose one outstanding person in the quilting world, it would be Barbara Brackman. Her vast knowledge of antique quilts and fabrics is awe inspiring. I follow her blogs to learn more about the vintage quilts I collect and the fabrics I search for to create new fabric collections. It was always a treat to visit with her at market and hear about her latest research project/book. 

Blockheads Block #15

This week's block is the T Block by Jo Morton. I've always wondered why this block was so popular in pioneer days. Were there alot of people with their last name beginning in "T"? Was it a block created for the Temperance movement? Probably a question for Barbara Brackman.

Kathy made our traditional version with Jo's collection in pink and cream prints. Check out the new book I just received. Simple Friendships has so many great little quilts. I have a couple picked out for summer stitching. This looks like another winner by Jo Morton and Kim Diehl. 

Joy made the KT Layered Patchwork option. I like that she used a different light print in the center of the T's for contrast, creating a churn dash on point. It gives the block a whole different look.

NEW KT Kut-ups

Mini Table Treats featuring KT Kut-ups

I've been playing with our KT Kut-ups this spring to make a few small, easy projects featuring our precut fusible applique packs. I hate to admit, it's kinda getting out of hand. I started with a couple of my 17" round Mini Table Treats, and just couldn't stop! It's like eating chips, just one isn't enough.

My Mini Table Treats (MTT) are so fast, you'll be whipping down binding in less than 3 hours.
1. cut circles
2. layer with batting and backing; quilt
3. position KT Kut-ups precut appliqes & fuse in place; topstitch
4. bind

Seriously, it's that easy!

As for the options, with the precut fusible KT Kut-ups ready to go, one Mini Table Treat turned into a cute pillow topper, then a pillow sleeve, but if you don't stitch the pillow sleeve into a tube, you have a great sized table topper, so, that prompted a runner with the applique on both ends. Whew! Let me show you what I've done.

Moda Blockheads Week #14

The weeks are flying by! I can't believe we're already more than a quarter of the way through our 48 block marathon. I'm more and more excited each week as I see you post your blocks on FB with quirky and creative twists. I anxiously await seeing the interesting variations you'll come up with for settings for your projects. I'm working on mine, a little at a time, and will show you my idea in a couple weeks.
